Service Learning Curriculum
Green Ambassadors is a project of the Environmental Charter High School in Lawndale, CA. The Green Ambassadors curriculum is way for students in school to actually start working on solving some of our world’s environmental problems.
EDUCATE
Students learn about systems thinking, composting, water conservation, organic food production, alternative energy and sustainable lifestyle.
ACTIVATE
After engaging in critical thinking and problem solving, students put their own green solutions into action within the community by producing an event. Students break into teams to develop and polishing the following skills. These skills are not only designed to help them put on a successful event, but to develop the team building and entrepreneurial skills they will need to succeed in college and careers beyond school.
Event Production
Design and Graphics
Public Outreach
Fundraising
Presentations
Lesson Plans and Games
Photography and Video
Social Marketing
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE
Students engage their parents, peers and community by inviting them to attend the event, which is the culmination of the knowledge and skills they’ve gained through the course. This allows students to become teachers and ambassadors, leaving them with lasting impressions and a stronger voice.
Beyond the event(s) students engage in delivering presentations, speaking at city council meetings, producing films or taking on internships that align with the knowledge or skills they’ve gained.
