Accomplishments of 2008

Major Accomplishments in our Work for a Green Future:  2008

As we undertake the path to a green world, we have been able to make the unimaginable come true. Nonetheless, it would have never been possible without your help. As we face opportunistic times, we have exemplified that youth is empowered and equipped to share the solutions to creating a better place. Yet, we are not alone on the road to making a difference. We have surrounding communities who are excited to make changes in their life’s to create a green community.

For 3 years, Green Ambassadors has been developing its programs and strategies to address the most pressing social and environmental issues. This year we had a break through, with funding and support to ensure the continuation of the program.
2008 Year of Major Accomplishments in our Work for a Green Future

Our work today is more crucial than ever. Together, we are tackling te world’s most critical environmental crisis with green solutions. Here are some of the highlights of our accomplishments in 2008:

  • Implemented over 10 Green Projects in making Environmental Charter High School a model of Green Solutions.
  • We were featured on Planet Greens, Alter-Eco, KPFK’s Aware Show and Healthy Planet.
  • Created the base for social networking site and project management site called Gambassa.
  • Reached over 700 people with our short film, “A Day in a Life” to encourage society to become a part of  the solutions.
  • We have participated in numerous conferences:  Bioneers, Green Fest, Abbott Kinney Green, Green Institute, National Charter School Conference, National Green Charter School Conference, and the CA Service Learning Conference.

Comments by those impacted by the program:

“This summer I went to Costa Rica, on the Green Adventure, for 10 days and it changed my life completely. Being in Costa Rica and seeing how people lived happily made me realize that there is a difference between wanting and needing.”

-Cendy Linares- Green Ambassador

“The morning after (the Green Ambassadors came), one of my students said, “I can’t wait for the holiday party.”  Another student turned to her and said, “I can’t wait to start composting!”  They LOVED it.  They really looked up to the high school students and had endless questions for them.”

- Lawndale Elementary School Teacher

“At first, Jordan, came home telling us that we can make a difference stop using your plastic bags, start recycling, put our organic matter back into the soil, grow your own food.  We were resistant at first, but then we started to get it.  We saw that her life was changed, so we changed along with her.”
